Job Overview:

As patients look to expand their options for therapeutic treatments, many have found music to be a suitable alternative. You will initially interview and diagnose patients, with the next steps involving the addition of music to therapy sessions in a clinical and controlled setting.   • Interviewing and assessing potential patients
  • Creating patient charts and continually monitoring progress
  • Encouraging patients to listen, interact, and often play music of their own or instruments of their own as you patiently monitor progress
  • Assessing which music tends to be the most effective and sharing these results with other therapists
  • Organizing music and musical instruments for patients
  • Creating treatment regimens and posting treatment recommendations
  • Publishing results, when applicable, in appropriate medical journals

Necessary Skills and Qualifications:

  • A licensed and experienced therapist
  • MD/Ph.D. in therapy work or specific course training for music applications

  • Ability to take copious notes and carefully observe patient progress

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Prior therapy experience
  • Experience as a musician, music teacher, or a degree in music theory
