Job Overview:

Our state is home to more than 150 state parks, with beautiful trails, winding creeks, and hidden waterfalls. We seek a park ranger to fill an immediate full-time position. As an employee of our state park agency, you will contribute to conservation efforts and use your knowledge to educate visitors during their stay. To be successful in this role, candidates must possess an unmatched passion for the outdoors with the physical stamina to work outdoors and in extreme conditions.


  • Greet visitors and provide park-specific paperwork
  • Lead guided tours and nature hikes, offering your knowledge on plants and animals indigenous to the area
  • Use your knowledge to help manage the state’s natural resources, and collaborate with colleagues and state officials to implement management strategies when applicable (e.g., erosion control, reforestation, etc.)
  • Perform physical maintenance of parks, as needed
  • Assist in administrative duties, including documentation of visitor numbers, wildlife sightings, and incident reports

Necessary Skills & Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Candidates with a bachelor’s degree in natural resource management, wildlife science, or another related field will be considered first
  • Certification to work with inmates is required; candidates without certification must be willing to complete all requirements within 90 days of hire date
  • Extensive knowledge of our state’s ecosystems, resource management techniques, and preservation and restoration of cultural resources
  • Basic groundskeeper skills as well as knowledge of mechanical maintenance, carpentry, electrical repairs, and general maintenance
  • Experience operating a wide variety of equipment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; experience writing technical reports a plus
  • Competent in public speaking
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • State Class E driver’s license or an equivalent type of license from another state
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime
  • Ability to pass a background check, physical fitness exam, and drug screening
  • This position requires outdoor work, sometimes in adverse conditions
