Q&A

Q: Why did you start your business?

A: I was working as a marketing consultant for a financial house and I found that I really liked what I did--I enjoyed the process. I've always passionately followed the evolution of the web since it's early days and have marveled at it. When that stint was over I decided to go into business as my own web consultancy.

Q: What are some key factors or decisions that contributed to the success of your business?

A: Here at Websites Depot we are constantly evolving, learning the new tools and techniques on the digital frontier. That's the nature of the web business, there are always new platforms and services becoming available, and with them, new ways to do things. It's very important to "stay ahead of the curve" so to speak, so that we can build trust in our clients that we are employing the most advanced tech and marketing methods on their behalf. I can say that level of trust in our business has remained solid in this regard, and this has contributed to our growth and success.

Q: What are some challenging aspects of your business?

A: Growth, believe it or not, has been a challenge. As we've been trusted with bigger, more complex projects, the challenge, then is to allocate our resources wisely enough that we can make good on the key milestones of our clients' campaigns or construction projects. It's kind of like Tetris, or putting pieces of a puzzle together, and there is some trial and error involved in how to be the most efficient we can be as a team.

Q: Do you feel you made any serious mistakes as you were starting or growing your business? Knowing what you know now, what would you have done differently?

A: Well, as a digital marketing agency, we want to learn a lot of the major marketing channels out there for us first--that way we pass on that experience and expertise on to what we do for our client base. Some of those marketing services or platforms we have used haven't always generated the adequate returns for us. So yes, in retrospect, we could have allocated more time and effort to those that are working like a well-oiled machine for us now.

Q: What other advice or words of inspiration would you like to share?

A: If you are fascinated with your trade or your industry, and you have a passion for it, don't let detours or roadblocks deter you from making progress in developing yourself as a business or individual. You'll find that when you're passionate about what you do, you'll be better at what you do.
