Illinois Nonprofits

Illinois has several nonprofits that focus on child welfare and adoption, the creative expression of women and non-binary individuals, and care for the homeless. Below you’ll find three examples of well-respected Illinois nonprofits dedicated to these issues.

Gift of Adoption Fund

The Gift of Adoption Fund is an ongoing fundraising and volunteer project that assists people with the cost of adoption. For those not in a financially viable position to pay for adoption or the transportation costs involved, the Gift of Adoption Fund can cover part (or all) of these expenses for eligible applicants who pass a background check. This nonprofit seeks out children in dangerous circumstances — both domestically and internationally — and sponsors them so someone can, hopefully, adopt them sooner. Since 1996, it’s helped children in hazardous environments find loving homes ready to accept them and let them grow up happy and healthy.

Woman Made Gallery

This art gallery only displays the work of female and non-binary artists. Founded in 1992, the gallery has since hosted 445 exhibitions that displayed more than 9,000 artists’ distinctive outlooks and experiences. Its mission is to provide a safe place for the artistic endeavors of women and non-binary individuals, ensuring they have a place to display their art and tell their stories. The Woman Made Gallery also connects its artists with events — both in person and digitally — to tighten their bond with each other and offers emotional support to artists who may need help while working on their projects.

Chicago Coalition for the Homeless

The Chicago Coalition for the Homeless (CCH) seeks to end the epidemic of homelessness in Chicago and Illinois as a whole. Through donations and partnerships with other charities, CCH funds community outreach programs to educate people about the high rate of homelessness in the city, Chicago’s lack of affordable housing, and what they can do to help. CCH also works diligently to supply Chicago’s homeless with resources to help them secure employment and find a place to stay. With the belief that housing is a human right, this nonprofit won’t stop until  homelessness ends throughout the Windy City.
