Because the parents of these kids can’t afford the necessities to keep them safe and comfortable, MississippiCoats4Kidz supplies coats for homeless and impoverished children. The nonprofit collects coats donated by citizens as well as stores and manufacturers, and then supplies them to kids and families who apply or visit its center.
Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi
More than 373,000 Mississippi residents had a diabetes diagnosis as of the end of 2022. The Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi (DFM) aims to help them by providing advocacy programs, emotional support, and information to raise awareness of the ways type 1 and type 2 diabetes affects people and how to manage the disease. Each year, DFM sponsors kids afflicted with diabetes so they can attend camps with other children like themselves. These camps not only help the kids build confidence in themselves, but also feel less like their illness holds them back. DFM’s funding for sponsorships and research into diabetes comes from donations from the public and other nonprofits.
