WiFi QR Code Generator for Your Small Business

Connecting to new WiFi networks has traditionally been a very tedious and time-inefficient task.

WiFi QR codes allow users to simply “scan” their way into a business’s WiFi network. This provides several advantages, including:

  • Increased security
  • Increased customer satisfaction
  • Better organization

In this guide, we break down how WiFi QR codes work, why small businesses are benefiting from incorporating them into their operations, and how they can be created.

How Does a WiFi QR Code Work?

A WiFi QR code allows users who scan it to automatically connect to a WiFi network without having to manually find and type in its password.

This makes WiFi QR codes highly applicable, as they can be used for a variety of different commercial and residential purposes. For example, as a business owner, you can include a physical copy of your WiFi QR code in your office.

New employees — or existing employees with new devices — will then be able to scan the QR code and automatically connect to your network rather than having to manually enter your password.

Aside from the obvious convenience-related benefit, WiFi QR codes offer increased protection to business owners. This is because:

  • WiFi passwords are never revealed
  • WiFi passwords can be more complicated since they are not manually typed

What Is a QR Code?

A QR code, or quick response code, is a type of unique barcode that is created for devices like smartphones to scan and read. It’s easy to embed almost any type of information into a QR code — from letters and digits to phone numbers and URL links. That’s what makes them so versatile, especially for small business owners.

Unlike standard barcodes — which can only read information in one direction — QR codes can read in two (i.e., top to bottom and right to left). This means that they are much better for storing large amounts of data.

QR codes can be used to track products and information in logistical operations. Since most consumers have phones with built-in QR readers, they are also great for advertising campaigns.

Having access to a trouble-free way to create your own distinct QR code can help you keep things running smoothly.

How Do I Use a WiFi QR Code for My Small Business?

WiFi QR codes can be used for a variety of different purposes. These can benefit both your customers (e.g., hotels, restaurants, etc.) and your employees (e.g., business offices, etc.).

Besides facilitating WiFi connections in your own offices, WiFi QR code generators can be a great help in the following industries:

Rental Accommodation

If you own a rental property business, WiFi QR codes can be life-changing for both your customers and yourself.

Any occupier of your property will be able to simply scan the QR code that you will have placed in the premises. This makes for a much more memorable and consumer-friendly experience.

Restaurants

It is not uncommon for customers in a restaurant to ask for a WiFi password.

Instead of requiring your staff (e.g., waiters/waitresses, managers, etc.) to tell your WiFi password to each customer — who will then be able to use it until it is changed — or providing it in a written receipt that may be typed in incorrectly, you can include WiFi QR codes.

These can then be used by your consumers without them having to ask anyone.

Clinics

Patients in clinics — or any business that is related to the Healthcare industry — can face stressful waiting times. For the most part, connecting to the WiFi and accessing the internet is a nice way of distracting themselves.

Similar to restaurants, WiFi QR codes can accelerate the process through which your customers can connect to your WiFi network and can provide a more stress-free and straightforward approach that doesn’t distract your employees from focusing on their work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to create a new QR code if I change my WiFi password?

Yes. This is because WiFi QR codes are a form of static code, meaning that they cannot be altered after they have been generated.

Since your original QR code will include your previous WiFi password, it will no longer be able to connect users to your current WiFi.

Our WiFi QR code generator is completely free of charge, so users are both encouraged and able to use it as many times as they wish — regardless of the size of their budget.

Should I use WPA/WPA2, WEP, or no encryption?

Generally speaking, WPA/WPA2 is the most secure option — and the default setting in most WiFi access points — so you may want to pick it if you are unsure.

“No encryption” is not really recommended for either business or residential purposes, as it means that your WiFi will be open to virtually any individual that is in close enough proximity to connect to it.

What WiFi password should I choose for my WiFi QR code?

Since WiFi QR codes enable users to connect to WiFi networks without having to manually type in any password, you should ensure that you make your WiFi password as complicated as possible to increase your security.

For example, you may want to include:

  • Upper and lowercase characters
  • Special characters
  • Numbers
  • Over 16 characters

Can I scan QR codes without an app?

Generally, yes. However, this will depend on how up-to-date your phone is, as well as what type of phone you own. For example, iOS 11 or later comes with a built-in QR code reader, and Android 9 (Pie) or later comes with built-in QR codes as a result of integrating with Google Lens.

If your phone does not have a built-in QR code reader, you can download a QR code reading app from your device’s app store.

How much does a WiFi QR code cost?

This will depend on the QR code generator that you use. TRUiC’s QR code generator is entirely free of charge and allows users to generate a very broad range of brand-specific QR codes for:
