Q&A

Q: Why did you start your business?

A: I started Case Escape with a partner in the Spring of 2013. We were initially looking to fully customize phone cases using a sublimation process that we created, selling cases both online and locally at craft fairs and events. When customers started asking us how they could make their own custom phone cases, we decided to flip our business model to supply the equipment and support our clients with their own businesses. Today, we've started over 100 first-time entrepreneurs with their own businesses.

Q: What are some key factors or decisions that contributed to the success of your business?

A: The growth of Case Escape has been mainly done through reactions to the technology market. Since it's changing so quickly, we place a large emphasis on making the new phone case models readily available to our customer base so that they can take advantage of initial sales. Also, we are constantly tweaking and improving our process, amount of services available to our clients, and customer service/training to ensure they are as successful as possible in whatever selling channels they pursue. Our clients know that they can rely on us for advice and assistance, which encourages them to go out and sell their product.

Q: What are some challenging aspects of your business?

A: The greatest challenge that we've faced thus far deciding where to take our company next. We are trying to make this business accessible to as many budding entrepreneurs as possible while keeping costs low, but the technological advances in the industry often times raise our costs. We've promised our clients to never raise prices on them in regards to supplies for their business and have even implemented an order fulfillment program where they can get started for no money at all. This program and others have helped us continue to provide services to our clients at an affordable price.

Q: Do you feel you made any serious mistakes as you were starting or growing your business? Knowing what you know now, what would you have done differently?

A: There are always things that I feel we could have done better along the way. If I could go back in time, I would have switched our business model over to supporting entrepreneurs from the very start. It was all part of the learning process, but we were almost a year into the business before selling our first start-up kit. This has since become our most valuable product and the most rewarding for us to see how many lives we've impacted but helping them become self-sufficient.

Q: What other advice or words of inspiration would you like to share?

A: Many times, I see first-time entrepreneurs start their businesses without really understanding the total scope of work that's going to be required. This could relate to the overall investment that's necessary, the detail in your plan of action, or most importantly, personal capabilities and time. While entrepreneurship is a continuous learning process, there still needs to be a solid foundation in order to grow the company. Case Escape helps ensure that the entrepreneurs that work with us are well prepared for their journey ahead, and can rest assured that they have a hard working team to back their success.
