Creating Your Recording Studio Logo

The audio industry has never been more approachable. No matter what kind of recording you would like to do, the equipment required is more accessible than ever before. Where it would have been nearly impossible for a small business to compete in this space many years ago, it’s now common to see young businesses enter this field.

As you aim to get your new recording studio off the ground, logo design will be one of your major tasks. It can be intimidating to design a logo that will act as the face of your brand, but this article should help. Let’s take our lead from some of the big names in this business to help you come up with a winning design.

Picking the Right Colors for a Recording Studio Logo

Thinking about logo colors is interesting for a recording studio, as this kind of business works with an audio medium, rather than a visual one. As a result, there isn’t a dominant color that you would think of as representing this industry.

Exploring the logos of some successful recording studios around the country uncovered an interesting trend - recording studio logos tend to be in black and white. Each of the three businesses we will highlight below uses no color in their logo aside from black and white.

  • Record Plant. This Hollywood-based studio has a logo that is just their name written out in white letters on a black background.
  • The Cutting Room. Going all the way across the country to New York City, we find another prominent recording studio with a color-free logo. There is some creativity shown here in the design, but everything is in black on a white background.
  • Luminous Sound. We’ve been to both coasts, so our last example will be pulled from right in the middle. Luminous Sound is a recording studio in Dallas, Texas. As with Record Plant, this studio leans on an all-white logo which stands out sharply against a dark backdrop.

The lack of colors in these logos makes sense when you think about above the industry’s audio medium. There isn’t a natural go-to color to choose from, so it might be best to stay away from color altogether. These logos look sharp and professional, and they won’t look out of date as color trends change over time.

So, does all of this mean that you can’t use color in your recording studio logo design? Of course not. It would be perfectly reasonable to pick a color to build your brand on, even if many others in the industry stick with black and white.

How to Choose Recording Studio Logo Icons and Symbols

Unlike with color, there is a little more to work with when it comes to logo icons and symbols for your design. Plenty of objects and shapes are associated with audio recording. If you need a little creative inspiration as part of the design process, look around at some of your recording gear and you will find plenty to work with.

Two of our three example logos go in this direction. Record Plant sticks with a text-only logo, but the other two incorporate symbols in their design. For The Cutting Room, they use a “TCR” logo to the left of the business’s name, and the “C” has a play button icon in the middle. So, the overall logo is still clean and minimal, but there is a little nod to the audio world.

Luminous Sound does something similar. The left side of their logo has a loosely designed circle shape, perhaps referencing old-school records or maybe the knobs on a mixing board. Either way, the circle outline makes a lot of sense here and is a subtle reference to the industry at hand.

Recording Studio Logo Font Selection

Simple fonts are used in all of the logos we’ve reviewed here. The Cutting Room and Luminous Sound both choose a sans-serif font, although The Cutting Room goes with all capital letters while Luminous Sound actually uses all lowercase letters and removes the space between the two words. For Record Plant Recording Studios, the first two words are a script, serif font, and the last two words are sans-serif block letters.

The font you choose for your logo is going to depend on the overall approach to the design process. If you follow the lead of these businesses and keep your design simple and professional, opting for a straightforward, sans-serif look is the way to go. However, if you lean toward the creative side and allow your logo to get a little more involved, picking a decorative font could be appropriate.

Building a great logo for a recording studio is something of a challenge. In an audio-focused world, you need to come up with a visual that represents your business properly. Take a hint from the successful studios highlighted on this page, and don’t overcomplicate this task. Think about going with a black and white look, or maybe incorporate one color to help your design stand out. From there, add a visual touch that relates back to the audio studio in some way, and make sure your brand name is easy to find. Good luck!

Things to Consider When Picking a Logo

It's best to brand your company with a logo that includes symbols, icons, colors, and fonts that clearly represent what you’re selling to your customers. Luckily, TRUiC's Free Logo Generator offers a large variety of options for all kinds of styles and branding options.

Color Psychology - Colors can help define the mood of your venture. Consider which color scheme will best represent your recording studio when using the color editor and creating your company brand with our logo maker.

Accessibility - When it comes to creating an accessible design, the font you choose should be easy for customers to recognize, and color contrast is vital for readability.

Icons vs. symbols to make your own logo design - Symbols can help to represent your business, like products you sell or the type and quality of service you offer.

For example, a logo for a CBD oil shop could be depicted as a leaf; the symbolism being that it’s earthy, organic, natural, or all of these.

Font style - Choosing the right font is important since fonts capture the attention of customers and show what they can expect from your company.

If you own a more formal business, such as an accounting firm, you’ll likely want to choose a font that is more minimalistic and professional. If you’re opening a company such as a toy store, you’ll probably want to choose a font that is more fun and whimsical.
