How to Brainstorm Domain Names – Transcript

Hey everybody, in the last video in the course, we discussed five tips for selecting a domain name for your business. In this video, we’re going to take what we learned and apply it to the imaginary barbershop that we’ve been building throughout the course.

If you remember, we’re going to call the barbershop “North End Barbershop of Bloomington.” We’re big proponents of domain names matching business names as much as possible, including important keywords, and being short. Keeping this in mind, this is the list of names that we’re going to take with us when we go to purchase the domain name for the barbershop on GoDaddy.com.

At TRUiC our mission is to offer all our resources and information for free – but we support our work by using affiliate links, meaning we earn a commission on many of the amazing deals we’ve negotiated for you. Full transparency, GoDaddy is one such affiliate partner. Link in description below.

NorthEndBarber.com was the shortest way to include as much of the business name as possible while keeping it short and is probably our first choice for a domain name. Northendbarbershop.com would be our second choice, given that it’s a little longer.

NorthEndBarbershopBloomington.com would be our third choice. It’s starting to get pretty long for a domain name, but it includes an extra keyword, as we expect a lot of potential customers to be Googling barber shops in Bloomington.

NorthEndBarbershopOfBloomington.com is a good domain name because it exactly matches the name of the business. It is, however, a very long domain name, so we have a place lower on our list.

TheNorthEndBarber.com is a name we would consider if none of the other above domains were available. If we end up selecting this domain, we would consider changing the name of the business to include the word “the” in the front. Thenorthendbarbershop.com would be the last name that we would consider without completely rethinking the name of the shop.

So, there’s our list of five domain names. In the next video, we’ll discuss how to purchase domain names and a hosting provider with GoDaddy.com.
