Looking for the best service to start your LLC? We used Rocket Lawyer and BizFilings to form LLCs, then compared their features.

In this Rocket Lawyer vs. BizFilings review, we’ll let you know if either is worth your time and money. We also recommend checking out our list of the top 5 LLC formation services.

Seeking excellent legal services beyond company formation? TRUiC partnered with Rocket Lawyer to offer a new business bundle deal filled with free incorporation services, legal advice, and more exclusive discounts!

When we started researching Rocket Lawyer and BizFilings, we focused on three main questions:

  • Is it a good deal?
  • Is there a better deal?
  • Who uses this service and how was their experience?

Answering these questions will boost your confidence so you can choose the best service to get your business up and running.

Which One is the Best Deal?

While both Rocket Lawyer and BizFilings offer LLC formation services, there are some key differences to look out for when deciding which one has the best deal.

Rocket Lawyer provides subscription-based legal services in addition to LLC formation. While their base formation price is similar to that of BizFilings’ basic package, new Rocket Lawyer subscribers can incorporate for free with a $39/month premium membership. Also with membership, they provide attorney services and a library of legal documents. Their registered agent service is also 25% off with membership.

The TRUiC and Rocket Lawyer partnership provides excellent deals for company owners needing ongoing legal services. The New Business Bundle includes great features, such as free incorporation services, discounted registered agent services, easy-to-use legal documents, and quality advice from lawyers. Overall, you’ll save approximately $300!

BizFilings offers one-off average formation prices. Where Rocket Lawyer offers a la carte features like EIN registration for an additional fee, BizFilings includes these features as part of their middle and high-tier packages. They also include six months of registered agent service.

Depending on your business’s needs in the short and long-term, either service can serve as a good choice.

Who Uses Each Service and What Was Their Experience?

Not many online reviews exist of BizFilings. Those that do are mixed in their satisfaction levels. Users praised the customer service and decent price points of the company’s formation packages.

“I've registered multiple businesses with BizFilings over the years and have experienced nothing but success with them. They're quickly available to help answer any questions I have along the way. Reading the other review, it's clear the individual doesn't understand that BizFilings offers a service to streamline registration and compliance activities. Of course, this is a service you pay for and personally, I'd rather let the experts do it so I may focus on the core of my business. Keep up the great work. -EB”
“I used this service to create my LLC 10 years ago. I was happy with this service until I relized [sic] I could update the status of my LLC using the State of Virginia's online server for 1/3 the cost. I canceld [sic] my service with BizFilings and serveral [sic] months later got an email from a collection agency (********) demanding that I pay BizFilings for services I had canceled. I contacted BizFilings and they confirmed that I had canceled the service.”

Rocket Lawyer

Rocket Lawyer receives generally positive reviews online for its services. Those who have used their services to start a business have praised the simplicity of the formation process as well as the customer service.

“Rocket Lawyer was easy to use. There was one thing missing from an online form that I was filling out, so they put me in touch with a lawyer and it all worked out. I highly rate this company.”
“This is a great legal on line [sic] service but $50 per month is too expensive for an occasional user such as myself who would only use it 4 or 5 times per year. I wish there would be an option where I could sign up fpr [sic] a week at a time for about $5.00. This would be a reasonable price and I can see myself using it 6 times a year generating $30. I can see loads of people doing this. It would be good for rocket and the customer.”

Is There a Better Deal Out There?

There are other formation services that can create your LLC for a better deal. Our favorite service is ZenBusiness, which offers LLC formation starting at $39 (plus state fees) and includes a year of registered agent service, operating agreements, and web domain services.

However, we highly recommend choosing Rocket Lawyer as your LLC formation service if your business will require ongoing legal services beyond company formation. For instance, if you are starting a real estate business, Rocket Lawyer can provide you with high-quality legal help regarding rental applications, sublease agreements, and so on.

BizFilings offers a good array of features at an average cost when compared to the rest of the market. They are not the most cost-effective option, but they have a solid customer service base and will get the job done well.

Rocket Lawyer offers subscription-based services for most legal matters--including LLC formation. While some are deterred by the monthly membership fee and the middle-of-the-road formation cost for non-members, they still receive great reviews for their attention to detail. If you choose the New Business Bundle, you’ll get an over 45% discount and an array of helpful features to help you during your business journey.

BizFilings offers formation services at an average price point. Their basic package base price is in line with Rocket Lawyer’s non-member formation price, but there are definitely cheaper options on the market. While their basic package is pretty barebones, they do offer important services like EIN registration and operating agreements as part of their higher-tier packages. That being said, many of BizFilings’ competitors include a year of registered agent service with their formation packages--BizFilings only offers six months.

Rocket Lawyer offers long-term value. This company is not limited to just business formation, but includes a whole library of legal document creation. Premium members have access not only to reduced formation costs but also to legal forms to keep your business compliant. The $39/month subscription may not be for every business, though. Our partnership offers a new business bundle with an exclusive discount of over 45% with access to consultations with Rocket Lawyer’s national lawyer network, unlimited legal documents, and discounted filings. This ongoing support can make a big difference for your new business. Their legal support infrastructure is what really sets Rocket Lawyer apart.

Customer Service

Many of BizFilings’ online reviews are happy with their customer service. They offer an online chat feature as well as having phone service. BizFilings also provides a warranty in the event of filing errors, and satisfied customers praise the company’s advice and its ability to quickly fix mistakes.

Rocket Lawyer offers an informative support center. The service dedicates an entire page on their website covering topics including technical support, membership, starting a business, contracts, etc. Their customer service allows you to receive instant help through chat, or you can reach one of their representatives by sending an email or calling 1(877) 881-0947, Monday - Friday, 6am-6pm PST.

Ease of Use

BizFilings’ website is confusing but workable. While their package comparison page lists every available additional service, some of the service descriptions are hard to understand. Online customer reviews have mentioned needing a call to customer service for further clarification on exactly what they’re paying for.

The user interface on Rocket Lawyer’s website is simple to understand. Their dashboard allows you to manage all of your LLC forms and paperwork easily, and their platform makes recommendations based on your business structure. They also provide a digital signature feature as well as a step-by-step guide to filling out their templates.

Included Features

While their basic package is barebones, BizFilings’ middle and high-tier packages offer important additional features. Their Standard package includes operating agreement templates, while their Complete packages introduces EIN registration. While competitors include a year of registered agent service in their packages, BizFilings still offers six months of service--more than Rocket Lawyer.

Rocket Lawyer excels at offering affordable, ongoing legal advice from licensed professionals. The company provides an array of valuable services such as accessible legal documents with e-sign, quick legal answers from licensed attorneys, phone consultations for legal matters, and more.
